I'm extremely proud to share with you some of my new designs in collaboration with 3D Hubs and Fairphone. Two 3D Printed Woodfill accessories; exclusively produced and manufactured by pioneers of decentralized manufacturing, 3D Hubs, for the new, improved and extremely socially conscious Fairphone 2.
First off Fairphone is doing some really amazing things. If you don't know about them, check them out. Long story short, they are changing the game of design and socially conscious manufacturing. Totally transparent, they share with the world, where they source materials, how they manufacture, even how much their margins are. Truly a "Fair Phone". On top of that wholesome goodness, their phone is really cool. It's exterior has an awesome built in protective case that can be removed without any tools. The interior is totally modular where parts can be swapped out and upgraded, for easy fixes as well as future proofing. Seriously this thing is so easy to fix, the screen can be replaced in less than 30 seconds!
Secondly, the partnership with 3D Hubs is a match made in heaven. If you don't know about 3D Hubs by now, it's about time you check them out. They're sole passion is to break down this crazy cycle of waste and deliver on demand parts and products locally through 3D Printing Hubs. They have over 20,000 Hubs and a reach of over 1 Billion people. Most likely there's a 3D Hub near you. The idea is simple, you think 3D Printing is awesome, because it is, but you don't have a 3D Printer. You have a cool idea or design and want to 3D Print it. If you can 3D Model all you do is upload your design, and boom, someone near you 3D Prints it and you can walk down the street and pick up your part. If you don't know how to 3D Model, there are some great places you can find on the internet that has really cool designs for free. Most likely those places are already linked with 3D Hubs, all you have to do is just place an order.
Case in point, Fairphone and the new Fairphone 2.
Like I said previously, I had the great privilege to design two new designs for the Fairphone 2. The first is a Nightstand. The idea was to design a beautiful and minimal as well as functional. The Nightstand is not only a great way to watch videos but also a brilliant dock that keeps your charging cable organized. The second design is a fantastic Amplifier. Inspired by the natural acoustics of conch shells, the Amplifier naturally magnifies the sound of the rear facing speaker directly to the front. Both designs are produced with a special Wood filled 3D Printing material that is both environmentally friendly and has a very unique and familiar texture and quality that you have to see to believe. The smell is quite amazing as well!

A huge milestone for myself with the launch of my first Limited Edition design collaboration with NOOKA AND 3D SYSTEMS in 2013. Almost a year after my relationship with NOOKA began with an introduction to Matt Waldman through a former colleague and friend Kellee Kimbro, a designer at NOOKA at the time. We dreamt about a future collaboration mixing 3D Printing technologies and the prolific futurism of NOOKA’s design aesthetic and design thinking. Matt gave me total freedom to go wild on the bands. Below is the fruit of our fantastic design collaboration, a year in the making.
Ten Limited Edition Watches featuring three signature Alan Nguyen 3D Printed Watch Bands.
[Honeycomb] Geometrically beautiful, the Honeycomb band is the classic digital
structure of the future.
[Wave] Musical genius, the Wave band is inspired by the hypnotic movement of
[Trillion] The Trillion band is inspired by a thousand billion triangles, interlinked
to create a mesmerizing form.

If you’ve owned a Cube 3D printer I’m sure you’ve been amazed by the treasures that the Cube produces. I’m not talking about the 3D printed T-Rex or the Mini Piggy or the Wave Lamp but I’m talking about the “waste” filament that gets spit out when loading a cartridge. I’ve been very privileged to have several Cube 3D Printers on my desk for the past 2 years and I’ve been marveling over the magic it produces time and time again. If you’ve never noticed, have a look in your rubbish bin and look for the dangly strings of filament. Take a closer look and marvel over the beautiful gradients. You can’t find them because you’ve already thrown them out? Well today is your lucky day. Series 01-04 is an extremely close up look of the building blocks that make your 3D Printed Designs into physical reality.
Just exploring my love for pure gradients and seamless design as well as in your face fluorescent colors, GRadiant started as a series of Sunday Fun Day art projects growing into a large collection of gradient art to be released, Summer 2014.

After the recent tragic events of Typhoon Haiyan affecting over 11 Million people of the Philippines, the great people over at WEAREPI have created a benefit and art auction to raise money and help support the people of the Philippines here in Amsterdam. Here are a few of the pieces I’ve been able to donate. WiRe is about interconnectivity. It’s about how our brains are wired. Whether our minds are in a state of introversion, extroversion or chaos, we are all one web of interconnected wires. The question is WhyARE we doing the things that we are doing?

Developed together with award winning Dutch designer Frederik Roijé, the Lightnest was envisioned as a fantastic soothing luminaire that seamlessly merges a nest of three embracing mushroom caps that showcases a magical dance of cheerful light. Working with Frederik was a real treat. A project that we originally thought would not be realized due to some really challenging speed-bumps ended up to be an extremely beautiful luminaire. The Lightnest was showcased at this year’s Milan Salone del Mobile 2012.

Mr. Mini Piggy isn’t for saving up money, he’s for saving memories, jewelry and an occasional secret or two. Instead of smashing him like his pops Mr. Piggy Bank, you can enjoy Mr. Mini over and over again with magnets that snap together the two Cube 3D Printed halves. The file will soon be up on Cubify where you can create an army of Mr. Minis at your home on your Cube 3D printer. By the way, the handwritten OINK is by the lovely Enrica Masi.
